4 tips on how to present your projects more convincingly

Outstanding project presentations are a critical success factor. It doesn’t matter whether you are an architect, engineer or any other project participant. The point is that you always need to impress your audience. Allplan offers a range of features to help builders and other stakeholders clearly and fully understand your design proposals to create a compelling presentation. Here you will learn how.

1. enhanced visualization with integrated tools

Visualizations can be significantly improved by using different view types and rendering tools. In Allplan, for example, you can divide your main screen into several windows. Each of these windows can be managed separately and navigated either with the mouse or using predefined or user-defined views. This way you can compare and choose which view you want, such as an animation, a wireframe, a sketch, or a real-time interactive rendering. This makes it very quick to create different views for presentations, documentation, or layouts.

Another advantage of the predefined views is that various decisions can be made more quickly, for example, about the type of material or colors. The scene can be customized with the Environment tool, for example with a sky as background. The 3D model can also be staged with an HDR image as the background.

From here, the rendering process can be started directly in Allplan by simply using the Real-Time Render or the integrated Cinema 4D engine and setting the quality. Once the rendering process is complete, you can make adjustments and save the rendering as a bitmap. Panoramic rendering is also possible, giving your clients a better understanding of the overall design.

2 Seamless data exchange with graphic design solutions

With Allplan, you can achieve great results when rendering. If you want, you can also export your model to other professional visualization software. One of the best professional solutions is Cinema 4D from MAXON.

If you export the Allplan model with a specific tool, you can add additional information and effects to it in Cinema 4D. Alternatively, you create new materials in Cinema 4D and apply them to the model. The resulting renderings are of such high quality that you can hardly distinguish them from a real photo.

The Cinema 4D format generated by Allplan is so popular that it can also be used to exchange data with other professional solutions such as TwinMotion, Unreal Engine, Unity and others.

Currently, the ALLPLAN team is working on a new interface called Allplan Lumion Livesync. This will allow Allplan and Lumion to work together via a real-time connection to ensure a more efficient workflow. It will not only provide amazing architectural renderings, but also animations and videos deliver.

3. responsive documentation made easy

When working with different views, you can also use the same workflow to quickly create views and sections for your documentation. If you are only interested in a small part of the model, select what you want to show and place it in the layout using the Layout Window or Passepartout tools. Views can be used multiple times in different documents and can also be customized if needed.

Then you can change the view by double-clicking the view or section and changing some parameters. For example, you can use various filters to filter out only the documents you are looking for, or you can remove textures to get a purely technical view. Detailed connections between components can be displayed using the new priority-based connection technique. Even the angle and intensity of shadows can be adjusted. For engineering, different colors can be assigned to the various reinforcement mark numbers by selecting an option. Allplan gives you the freedom to combine 2D and 3D views and other information as you wish. When the layouts are ready, they can be exported or printed in various formats (such as DWG or PDF).

Usefully, all views placed in the layout are dynamically linked to the model and automatically adjust as the model changes. Creating documents and layouts with Allplan is therefore a quick and easy process that allows a high level of detail to be achieved without the need for complicated workflows.

4. efficient model analysis for clear communication

The layer structure of an Allplan model also enables clear communication and visualization. For example, structural data can be easily isolated from the architectural model by simply hiding the layers that are not relevant. Or the construction sequence can be displayed to the general contractor via the object palette according to the relevant criteria such as WBS or topology.

Various criteria come into question. For example, you classify each component according to a specific standard (e.g. UNIFORMAT). You then create user-defined attributes and assign the classification to each Allplan component using Excel. This information can be used to analyze the model and highlight the components you are looking for, such as stairs, beams, walls or others. Not only can you quickly find a specific component, but you can also update just one component and apply the changes to all other components, such as precast columns.

Another application would be to easily identify MEP installations. Using the same workflow, you can hide all panels and then apply a color to all components on the MEP layer. Alternatively, you can color each type of MEP installation (e.g., power conversion devices, fittings, and clamps) in a different color by using the IFC OBJECT-
